New CALSTART member Hyroad Energy has just announced a partnership with Bosch Rexroth and GenH2 to develop the first-ever zero-loss liquid hydrogen refueling station in the United States. The system will be deployed at Hyroad’s flagship hydrogen refueling station in Dallas, Texas, marking a major milestone in advancing hydrogen infrastructure beyond California. The partnership blends Bosch’s Liquid Hydrogen CryoPump technology, GenH2’s Controlled Storage technology, and Hyroad’s expertise in hydrogen infrastructure development. A pioneer in hydrogen-powered transportation solutions, Hyroad Energy offers zero-emission Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell trucks aimed at fulfilling fleet needs while reducing their carbon footprint. If you’d like to connect with Hyroad, reach out and let us know!
Another company to recently join CALSTART’s robust membership program is Orbis Electric, and their axial flux in-wheel motor is helping accelerate the transition to low carbon mobility solutions. Their motors maximize strength and efficiency by featuring a single or double rotor fitted with rare-earth and/or domestic ferrite magnets. This technology offers benefits across torque, cost, and unsprung weight that make a compelling case for moving motors back to wheels. Check out this MotorTrend article for a technical deep dive on how Orbis’ motors work and the industry advancements on the horizon.
American Textile Maintenance, a fleet offering linen and uniform services across Southern California, has committed to purchasing 12 CircularEV Class 5 trucks from Evolectric. The decision comes after an 8-day pilot where the retrofitted trucks demonstrated a 65% reduction in operating costs, thanks to lower energy consumption and reduced maintenance needs. Evolectric’s CircularEV proprietary retrofit solution converts existing commercial trucks into fully electric, smart-enabled vehicles. Evolectric’s technology is not only a more cost-effective option for electrification, but can be a quicker one, too. American Textile ordered electric trucks from other manufacturers in 2022 but have yet to receive any deliveries, while Evolectric delivered its first CircularEV truck ahead of schedule. Along with the trucks, American Textile is working with Chargie and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to install seven 50kW chargers across multiple sites.
Harbinger Motors has launched production of their medium-duty vehicles out of Garden Grove, California, with over 100 units already delivered to customers. The vehicles feature a stripped chassis designed for a wide range of medium-duty applications like walk-in vans, box trucks, and RVs. Harbinger is planning to hire 100 new employees this year to help tackle the 4,600+ vehicles currently in the order book. Harbinger is the only manufacturer producing drivetrains in-house, which keeps costs competitive without sacrificing quality. Customers or dealers can partner with third parties to further customize the chassis for their specific needs after the initial assembly. To make their vehicles as affordable as possible, Harbinger recently launched the IRA Risk-Free Guarantee, aimed at keeping vehicle prices steady regardless of the fate of federal incentives.
